Masters of the Renaissance
curated by R. Caterina Proto Pisani and G. Gentilini

This section, the heart of the project, is aimed at illustrating the rebirth of terracotta, which Pliny considered the mother of all arts. Having disappeared in the Middle Ages, the art of terracotta was returned to its central position in the 15th century. The terracotta masterpieces here on display of great artists like Brunelleschi, Ghiberti, Donatello, Nanni di Bartolo, Michelozzo and Luca della Robbia attest, just like the works executed in nobler materials such as bronze or marble, to the innovative features of the Renaissance.
